SCHOOL CLOSING SCHEDULING

Please notify your staff of the following scheduling procedures in event of a snow day. Please be advised that the District follows two (2) schedules. Please inform your staff so that everyone is clear about the procedures because of the staff that travels between schools.

Secondary School(s) Schedule for Grades 5-12
In the event of a snow day, we treat the snow day as if school were in session at the secondary schools.

For example at the high school: if the day before the snow day was an “A” day and the snow day would have been a “B” day; the day after the snow day is an “A” day.

For example at the middle schools: if the day before the snow day was an “A” day and the snow day would have been a “B” day; the day after the snow day would be a “C” day.

Elementary School Schedule for Pre-K-4
In the event of a snow day, we would treat the snow day as if it were a “NO” day so that if the day before the snow day is an “A” day and the snow day would have been a “B” day; the day after the snow day is a “B” day.

Dismissal time will remain the same.

There WILL be afternoon child care (SACC) and after-school activities, unless otherwise noted.

Lunch WILL be served at all district schools.

All Community Education Center classes will be cancelled on NO SCHOOL days; afternoon classes WILL be held on DELAYED OPENING days.

Early Dismissal

In rare cases when a decision is reached to dismiss school early due to severe weather, power failure or other emergency, the administration will make every attempt to communicate with the parents of the students affected.

The principal's office will activate the PTO/A and school emergency telephone chains. Parents of elementary and middle school students are asked to indicate on the Emergency Card whether they wish their child to leave at the early dismissal time or to remain in the school to be picked up at the normal dismissal time. No child in grades PreK - 8 will be released early unless permission has been granted. The police department will be notified of an early dismissal. Sufficient school personnel will remain to supervise the students who are to remain in school. Transportation will be provided for children who ordinarily are bused.

If school is OPEN and it starts to snow and you want to pick up your child, please be there 20 minutes before dismissal.

On an early dismissal day, schools will follow the half-day schedule.

There may be an emergency condition, such as severe weather, that arises at the end of the school day that requires keeping children in the building to ensure their safety. If such an emergency occurs, children will be kept until their dismissal is deemed safe. Parents may call the school at any time. Bus routes will operate as close to the regular schedule as possible.
