Dr. Irving's Important Info- Spring Break Letter April 8, 2022

April 8, 2022

Dear Teaneck Parents/Guardians, Students & Staff,

Spring break is upon us (schools are closed all next week/the district office is closed April 15 for Good Friday), and it is an opportunity for everyone to relax and rejuvenate. I too will be using this time to reflect upon my years here in Teaneck as I announce to you today that I will be leaving the school district upon the conclusion of this school year. The Board of Education and I have mutually decided that come July 1, there will be a new educational leader for Teaneck Public Schools. The Board will begin their search for a new Superintendent and I will do my part to ensure a smooth transition.

I am very fond of this Township and have come to love this school system. I am exceptionally proud of what we have accomplished together since I joined the district in July 2018. We now have a free, full day preschool program serving over 200 children, a new kindergarten school named after a living legend from the community, a new district office, and a new district vision that I hope will carry on for many years. The Teaneck Advantage represents so much of who we are and what we strive to achieve. In just the first three years, most of the goals in our five-year Strategic Plan have either been accomplished or are well on their way to being so – and we did this while managing through a global pandemic. That should make all of us very proud!

It has been my honor to serve as this district’s leader for the past four years and to serve alongside an outstanding Executive and School Leadership Team. Likewise, Teaneck’s teaching and support staff are second to none, and our children are in capable and compassionate hands.

Lastly, I want to say to our parents and students, thank you for making me feel so welcome and for putting your trust and faith in me. We may not have always agreed; but I hope you know that I listened and made decisions that I felt were in the best interest of the children.

Now as you enjoy this well-deserved break, I once again ask you to do so safely. Please consider doing an at-home test before returning on Monday, April 18; and for anyone who is not fully vaccinated, you are encouraged to wear a mask the week of our return. Overall, Bergen County is still in the “Low” risk category; but we should expect to see some positive cases, and potentially, some remote learning for isolated situations. Beyond this, our protocols won’t change unless we hear differently from the State or CDC.

In closing, I am wishing a Happy Passover and a Happy Easter to all who are celebrating. Ramadan is also underway – so to our Muslim community, I wish you a blessed holiday. Please note that this year’s school calendar has been revised regarding the upcoming Eid ul Fitr holiday – and we will now be closed on Monday, May 2 with a delayed opening on Tuesday, May 3.

Sincerely,

Dr. Christopher Irving, Superintendent of Schools
