Teaneck High Students Visit Washington DC and the Holocaust Museum

On a sunny day in February, students from Teaneck High School headed for Washington, D.C. and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. They began their visit with a guided tour of the Capitol building, its impressive offices and grand Rotunda.  They then continued on to the Holocaust Museum.

The visit to the Museum was a riveting and emotional experience.  Students walked somberly through graphic exhibits of ghettos and extermination camps.  They saw endless lists of names of victims of destroyed communities etched into glass walls, and thousands of memorial candles lighting a hall of remembrance.  Visibly moved, they sat silently listening to the voices of Auschwitz survivors echoing in a long, dark hall.  

Afterwards, the students walked in the beautiful sunshine across the National Mall. They climbed the steps to the massive Lincoln Memorial, and took pictures of the Washington Monument across the famous reflecting pool.  Afterward, they enjoyed dinner in a city restaurant before heading back to Teaneck.
