What Parents Need to Know

Communication is one of the District’s most important priorities in addressing student achievement because it is one way of engaging parents to play an active role in their child’s education. The Teaneck Public School District has set up numerous resources for parents to keep them informed about what’s going on in the schools as well as their child’s classroom. From newsletters and pamphlets, to our website and email communication, to our local newspaper and cable programs, we use a variety of media to keep everyone informed about important information, news and events in our schools. Here are some of the many ways you can keep up-to-date:

Annual Budget Summary: Published once a year and mailed to each district household, this brochure is a continuing effort to provide meaningful financial and budgetary information to the general public. It is our sincere intent to provide an effective tool for greater citizen involvement in the district budget process.

eBoards: An eBoard is an online electronic cork board tool that permits educators, parents and students to effectively communicate. Administrator and teacher postings show up as sticky notes, which can be opened by clicking on the note title. Educators can post anything and everything pertaining to their class (homework assignments, expectations, pictures, etc.), a specific department, club/team and/or the district.

Email: The District email service provides electronic communications for the benefit of the administration, staff parents, students and the community. It is a store-and-forward method of writing, sending, receiving and saving messages over an electronic communication system.

Flyers: Promotional flyers are distributed in the schools and posted on the web site to advertise special events such as parent meetings, school events, and more.

Mailings: From time to time, parents can expect to receive mailings each school year including postcards with registration/residency reminders, students’ assignments, and other important notices.

New Student and Visitor Information: Tours of any of the seven district school buildings should be pre-arranged. The District works closely with new families to assure that the transition into a new school system will be smooth and the children will feel as comfortable as possible.

Newspapers/Cable Television: The District provides regular updates to the Suburbanite and other local media concerning the latest new developments, student accomplishments and interesting programs within our schools. The Suburbanite, and at times the Record, sends photographers and reporters to our schools to provide special feature coverage of our students’ involvement in science/environmental programs, service learning programs, special events and other educational programs.

Parent Information Meetings: Meetings are scheduled throughout the year to share information with parents and the community on relevant programs and topics in the district.

School Newsletters: School newsletters, featured on this web site under the individual school menus, keep families up-to-date with current school information, events, and more.

Web Site: This web site contains a wealth of information about the Teaneck Public Schools. In addition to school information, staff directories, and Board of Education information, a variety of links are available for student help and resources. Also, check the staff directories for links to a number of web pages maintained by individual teachers who post their class requirements and homework.

Voice Mail: The District’s automated voice mail telephone system allows parents to leave messages for teachers 24 hours a day.
