We are aware that some of our older students will be fasting during Ramadan. Please contact dsantamaria@teaneckschools.org if your 3rd or 4th child will be fasting in observance of Ramadan. We want to ensure that we are supporting our children by limiting strenuous physical activity and providing a separate space during lunch time.

Good evening and warmest wishes to you and your family for health, happiness, and success in 2025!
 
Due to an inordinate amount of spills in our hallways and classrooms, causing concerns for slipping accidents, I am requiring that all student water bottles have a top that completely seals or closes. I am asking that students no longer bring cups that have a straw or an open mouth piece to school.
Students are permitted to bring water bottles to school that can be closed or sealed completely.  Additionally, water fountains are available in each hallway of our school and the cafeteria.  Students are able to get a drink of water during any class period, when needed.
I appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school safe from potential spill related accidents.

Dear Hawthorne Families,
Wishing you all the happiest of holidays. From the entire Hawthorne School staff, we wish you and your family a wonderful season filled with love and laughter. Have a safe and restful break.
 
Hawthorne School will be closed December 23rd through January 1st. School will reopen on January 2nd.
 
Tomorrow, Friday, December 20th
Pajama Day - wear your pajamas or loungewear, no eye masks or stuffies. 
All early pickups must occur prior to 1:00 PM on Friday, December 20th. The Main Office will be closed for pickups from 1:00 PM through dismissal.

Attendance
Please make sure your child or children arrives at school on time each day. Tardies and absences must be kept to a minimum. Please plan vacations during school closures. Please make every attempt to schedule student appointments after the school day or on weekends. Every minute counts, every minute your child misses due to lateness or early dismissal impacts their learning and disrupts the learning of their classmates.

The first week of school flew by with Hawthorne School students quickly acclimating to their new classrooms and schedules.

Reminders:
  • Please return all beginning of the year forms to your child's teacher.
  • Doors Open for students at 8:20 AM. Supervision is not available prior to 8:20 AM.
  • Please know that if you are either dropping off or picking up your child(ren) before and after school, students are received by staff in the morning and released to parents/guardians in the afternoon on the Letter Avenue side of our school.  The car line proceeds on the right side of the road.  Please place a piece of paper with your child's name on it in your passenger window prior to joining the car line.  Please do not park across the street (Letter/Hawthorne) and walk over to pick up your child(ren) on the blacktop nor park in the parking lot. Safety and efficiency are key.  
  • Late students must be signed in by an adult at the Main Entrance on Fycke Lane (please do not park on the school side of Fycke Lane).

Good evening Hawthorne Families,

The first day back for students was an overwhelming success. The hallways were buzzing with excitement as students moved about the building. 

Please read the following important items:

Transportation:
We are working closely with the Transportation Department to fix busing glitches. We appreciate your patience as bus routes are ironed out over the next few days.
 
Lunch and Water Bottles:
Students who bring home lunch should bring a ready to eat meal, microwaves and fridges are not available for student lunches.
Water bottles are permitted in the classroom providing the top can be completely shut without any remaining openings or holes.
 
Beginning of the Year Forms:
Please check your child's backpack for the beginning of the year forms. Please complete, sign, and return these forms as soon as possible.
  • Emergency Contact form (2 sides on green paper)
  • District Code of Conduct (on yellow paper - the code can be found in the Parent/Guardian Handbook linked below)
  • District Media Consent Form (on blue paper - please choose one option and sign).

Hawthorne School staff members and I are excited to welcome students back to school tomorrow morning. In order to ensure a smooth transition into the new school year, please review the important items below:
  • Doors Open for students at 8:20 AM. Supervision is not available prior to 8:20 AM.
  • Please know that if you are either dropping off or picking up your child(ren) before and after school, students are received by staff in the morning and released to parents/guardians in the afternoon on the Letter Avenue side of our school.  The car line proceeds on the right side of the road.  Please place a piece of paper with your child's name on it in your passenger window prior to joining the car line.  Please do not park across the street (Letter/Hawthorne) and walk over to pick up your child(ren) on the blacktop nor park in the parking lot. Safety and efficiency are key.  
  • Late students must be signed in by an adult at the Main Entrance on Fycke Lane (please do not park on the school side of Fycke Lane).
  • Buses may run a bit off schedule the first few days of school, please be patient.

Good evening, 

As we embark on a new academic year, I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome to all Hawthorne School students and families, both returning and new. 

The first day for students is Thursday, September 5th. Students may enter the building via the blacktop entrance beginning at 8:20 AM. Staff members will be on hand to assist students in navigating the halls and finding their classrooms. Transportation information will be forwarded to bus eligible students/families from the Transportation Department. 
Ms. Brantley, Elementary Outreach Counselor and I will be holding grade level meetings to go over expectations for the school year with students the second week of school. The expectation meetings will be held during the regular school day and are for students only. 

Parents/Guardians are invited to join us at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 26th.

Updated student entry time for the 2024-2025 school  year. 
Students may begin entering the building at 8:20 AM this school year.

    Classes begin at 8:30 AM Students who walk or ride with parents must arrive at school no earlier than 8:20 AM since there is no supervision before this time. Crossing guards are at Glenwood Avenue and Fycke Lane, Fycke Lane and Lucy Avenue, and Lucy Avenue and Lindbergh Avenue. Students will not be permitted to enter the school until 8:20 AM

    Buses line up on Lucy Avenue.

    When driving your children to school, please drop them off on Letter Avenue -- do not drop students off on Lucy Avenue or Fycke Lane.

Hawthorne School’s PTA is currently recruiting parents for several key positions, including PTA President, Secretary, 4th Grade Chair, and Yearbook Chair for the 2024-2025 school year.
Without the support of the PTA many of the wonderful events they sponsor each year, including picture day, book fairs, and Family Fun Nights, will not occur
