After-School Programs
After-school child care is provided by the Working Parents Association.
After-school enrichment classes are offered by the Teaneck Community Education Center.
Free after-school tutoring/enrichment programs are sponsored by the Department of Curriculum & Instruction.
Curriculum Components
Learning is focused on achievement of literacy in all areas.
Multicultural approach.
Technology is infused throughout the curriculum.
Science curriculum integrates science, technology and health.
Academically gifted children are identified in the areas of Humanities and Mathematics at all grade levels and enrichment/differentiation is provided.
Students in grades 1 - 4 participate in the Junior Great Books Program.
Instrumental music begins in grade 4.
Special Programs
A guidance program offers students social skills/counseling by social worker interns under the supervisor of the outreach guidance social worker.
Student Learning Environment
Students are encouraged to become life-long learners.
Conflict Resolution and Peer Mediation strategies are taught and modeled.
Activity or learning centers reinforce and supplement instruction.
Instruction is differentiated for strengths and needs of all learners.
Learning how to learn and problem-solving learning are emphasized.
Parent/Family Support
Parent and family members are involved in many Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) activities including picnics and other family nights, international dinners and craft nights.
PTO fundraises for cultural activities and field trips that support/enhance instruction. Parents and community members volunteer as Reading Buddies, tutors and speakers.
Family Support Counselor who coordinates with staff and administration to develop programs and services that are family centered and address the unique and individual needs of families in the district.
Teaneck Academically Gifted Program (TAG)
The Teaneck Academically Gifted Program (TAG) will provide an enriched, varied and continuous curriculum with differentiated learning opportunities for students based on their multiple intelligences. In the spring, all fourth graders take a cognitive abilities test. COGAT, along with NJ ASK results, teacher and parent recommendations, and electronic portfolio assessments, will identify student participation in the middle school TAG program. TAG students in grades 3 & 4 will participate in multidisciplinary seminars, which will include language arts and social studies.
