TJMS Virtual Academy

The TJMS Virtual Academy will require support from caring adults at home and within the online classroom environment. Activities are designed to ensure that students continue learning at the pace of the Teaneck Public Schools curriculum guides, as well as continue to further the development of our lifelong learners.

For the first marking period, students will follow the regular full day schedule of classes on Mondays through Thursdays and half day schedule of classes on Fridays. We maintain open lines of communication between teachers, students and parents. The level of rigor, workload, time commitment and timing of classes will be primary differences from the eLearning plan in the spring of 2020.

Students will participate in synchronous and asynchronous learning. Synchronous learning is two-way, real-time, live instruction between teachers and students through the computer device. Asynchronous learning is a curricular experience where students engage in the learning materials on their own time, interacting intermittently with the teacher via the computer.

The Virtual Academy has numerous differences from Distant Learning done the spring based on feedback received from parents, students and teachers. The Virtual Academy will look different based on the need of each student. In addition, students who receive supplemental services will find that their services are developmentally appropriate.
