Teaneck High Students Visit Washington DC and the Holocaust Museum

THS DC Trip January 2020Teaneck High students arrived in Washington DC to visit the Holocaust Museum in January, the month in which this year we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp.

The students first went on a guided tour of the Capitol, and were invited to sit in the gallery of the House of Representatives to watch the legislature in session, with visitor passes courtesy of our congressman, Josh Gottheimer.   Many students commented on how impressed they were by this inside look at their government.

Then, under a sunny sky and with unseasonably warm weather, the group walked along the National Mall to arrive at the Holocaust Museum.   The tour through the museum was a silent and emotional experience, serving as a painful look at the terrible era of the Holocaust.   At the same time, however, the portraits of those men and women who courageously acted to save lives, regardless of threats and punishments, form an inspiring gallery of heroes.

The visit to Washington was both fascinating and moving; not a day that will be easily forgotten.
