Annual Health Screenings/Physical Exams

May 17, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Throughout the typical school year, multiple health screenings required by the state of New Jersey are performed by the school nurse. (N.J.A.C. 6A:16-2.2(g)3 and N.J.A.C. 6A:16-2.3(b)3ii mandated health screenings include height, weight, blood pressure, hearing, vision, and scoliosis.)

Due to Covid 19 protocols of remote learning, hybrid in-person four-hour sessions, and adhering to safety measures while conducting student screenings to prevent the spread of Covid 19; such as cleaning equipment between students and screening one or two students at a time, the nurses will be able to complete the health screenings on a limited number of students this school year.

Health and safety remain our priority. As such, if your child has had a physical examination during his school year, we are asking that you kindly send a copy to your school’s nurse by June 14, 2021. (The information on the physical examination will be recorded on your child’s health record and fulfill the screenings for the 2020-2021 school year.)

If your child has not had a physical, it is recommended to schedule one as soon as possible. Families who elect not to submit their child’s current physical examination record to the school nurse by June 14, 2021, will be considered an opt-out of screenings for this year. Note: Parents/Guardians may opt-out of any or all screenings.

This has been an unconventional year. We are hopeful for a return to a more traditional 2021-2022 school year.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and be well.
