On November 14, Teaneck Public Schools will honor Ruby Bridges's legacy by participating in Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. This event celebrates the bravery of Ruby Bridges, who became the first African American child to integrate an all-white elementary school in the South at just six years old. Her courage and determination paved the way for future generations, making her an enduring symbol of the fight for equality and civil rights.
The Walk to School Day encourages students, families, and the community to unite in solidarity, promoting inclusivity and diversity within our schools. Between 9-9:30 am, students across the school grounds will walk with teachers, staff, and parents, reflecting on the importance of education, acceptance, and social justice.
Participants will gather at designated meeting points and walk to their respective schools, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. The day will also include discussions and activities focused on the significance of Ruby Bridges’ contributions to education and civil rights.
We invite all families and community members to wear purple and celebrate the spirit of courage and the ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all students. Together, we can honor Ruby Bridges’ legacy.
