THS Investing Classes Shine During the Fall 2024 Session of the Stock Market Game

Students in Mr. Hannon’s Investing Honors classes participated in the Fall Session of the Stock Market Game, a statewide competition of high school students in which students manage virtual portfolios. The competition ran from early September to mid-December. Students traded in “real-time” from their individual trading account based on their own strategies and using multiple trading techniques. Out of 1,991 teams in the state of New Jersey in the High School Division, THS had an impressive 4 students in the top 7, placing 1st, 2nd, 4th and 7th overall. The 1st and 2nd place students will be awarded prizes from the game’s organizing entity. The Fall session represented Teaneck High School’s best performance to date and it was the first time that students from THS claimed the top 2 spots in the competition. The students who placed in the top 10 included:
1st - Christian Munoz, Class of 2026
2nd - Julian Vasquez, Class of 2025
4th - Daniel Desir, Class of 2026
7th - Malik Jaber, Class of 2026
The Stock Market Game is an online simulation game of the global capital markets that engages students in the world of economics, investing and personal finance. Students are given a virtual portfolio of $100,000 that they can spread at their discretion between various asset classes including stocks, mutual funds and bonds. The game has 12-week competitive game sessions which run in both the fall and spring. Students are measured on their percentage gain in comparison to the performance of the S&P 500. Mr. Hannon’s Investing Honors classes have competed in both game sessions for the past sixteen years.
