Thomas Jefferson Middle School STEPS Girls Mentoring Program is for 7th and 8th grade girls. STEPS was established to meet the following objectives:
1) To establish a group of diverse, young women who have potential for great leadership and peer mentorship
2) To create a cohesive leadership group amongst these girls who are committed to becoming leaders by providing them with adult mentorship.The advisors of the program are Ms. Benitez, Ms. Beavers and Ms. Guzy.For the last two years the STEPS Girls Mentoring Program at Thomas Jefferson Middle School has raised and donated enough money to the Smile Train Organization to allow for 2 children to receive a free surgery for a cleft lip. STEPS will continue to do so this year as well.
Thomas Jefferson Middle School’s STEPS Girls Mentoring Group celebrated Women in History Month on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 with a workshop on the topic of leadership. Special guest speakers were community leaders Teaneck Councilwoman Lizette Parker and Judge Sheena Barr. The guests shared their personal insights into the paths they took in order to be successful leaders on their jobs as well as in the community. The STEPS members asked questions about education and career choices which the speakers graciously answered.
