Dear Thomas Jefferson Middle School Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 academic year. I hope your family had a restful and healthy summer break. As part of our amazing learning community, our faculty and staff welcome you back and value your dedication to excellence in education. As a collaborative learning community, we highly encourage you to be involved in sustaining the academic and emotional growth of our young scholars.
As we begin this school year, I would like to welcome our newest Patriots – our fifth grade families. Embolden your children to take advantage of all that TJMS has to offer; allow them to grow, make new friends, learn all they can about our rapidly changing world and utilize all the opportunities afforded to them each day. I would like to introduce the newest member of our support staff, Ms. Jessica Hummel. She will be our counselor overseeing grades 6 and 7 until Ms. Martino’s return in November.
We are moving towards becoming a paperless school. As such, most of our communication will be via email and text messaging. Please verify your information in Skyward (phone numbers, email addresses and emergency contacts). In additional to our teachers updating grades in Skyward on a regular basis, our school will send you weekly emails to inform you of upcoming events. If there are any discrepancies, you may update your profile (instructions are available on page 9 in the manual). If you need to obtain your Skyward login information or need further assistance with editing your Skyward account, you may contact the Counseling Office at 201-833-5475 or email Ms. McMillon at [email protected] for further assistance. “How To” videos will also be available on our district website.
Our first day of school will be on Tuesday, September 8th. You will be able to view your child’s schedule in Skyward on August 21st. 7th & 8th grade parents: your child’s schedule should consist of Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Physical Education, World Language (French or Spanish) and two electives. If you notice that your child is missing a class in his/her schedule, please contact your child’s counselor before the first day of school. Additionally, please visit our school webpage to complete all the forms we need for your child’s use of technology, media release and lunch applications. Other important information can be found on our school website; this includes the school calendar, school supplies lists on the Parent Information eBoard, and the Student/Parent Handbook.
The administrative team and TJMS staff are committed to enhancing student achievement, promoting character education, and providing opportunities to discuss specific areas of focus. We are committed to our motto of lifelong learning in a caring environment and look forward to working with you to ensure your child’s success
We look forward to greeting our students and families again. Together, we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all.
Enjoy the remainder of the summer break.
A Commitment to Lifelong Learning in a Caring Environment
