About TJMS

Dear Thomas Jefferson Middle School Families,

It is my honor and privilege to welcome you to the 2019-2020 academic year. I hope you had a wonderful summer break and your child is ready to start a new school year. As part of our amazing learning community, our faculty and staff welcome you back and value your dedication to excellence in education.

The African proverb – “It takes a village to raise a child” – conveys what it means to work together to serve our students. Our skilled and devoted faculty are already planning and preparing for our students. Throughout the summer, our office team has been registering new families and ordering resources for our classrooms. Our hard working custodial staff members have been cleaning the facility. Our PTA is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities and offer exciting events for our students. As a collaborative learning community, we highly encourage you to be involved in sustaining the academic and emotional growth of our young scholars.

As we begin this school year, I would also like to welcome our newest Patriots – our incoming fifth graders. I encourage you to take advantage of all that TJMS has to offer, allow yourselves to grow, make new friends, learn all you can about our rapidly changing world and utilize all the opportunities afforded to you each day.

Our first day of school is Thursday, September 5. Enclosed, you will find a copy of your child’s schedule, emergency contact forms, acceptable use of technology form and lunch application. Please complete all of these forms and have your child return them to his/her homeroom teacher on the first day of school. If you notice your child is missing a class in his/her schedule, please contact your child’s counselor before the first day of school. Other important information can be found on our school and district website; this includes the school calendar, school supplies lists, and the Student/Parent Handbook.

The administrative team and support staff are committed to enhancing student achievement, promoting character education, and providing opportunities to discuss specific areas of focus. We are committed to our motto of lifelong learning in a caring environment and look forward to working with you to ensure your child’s success.

We are moving towards becoming a paperless school. As such, most of our communication will be via email, so please confirm that your information is accurate in Skyward. Our school will send you weekly emails to inform you of upcoming events. Our teachers update Skyward regularly so please be sure to have your login and password information. Should you need assistance with Skyward, you may contact the Counseling Office at 201-833-5475.

We eagerly look forward to greeting our students and families again. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all.

Sincerely,

Nina Odatalla

Principal
