Principal's Message

Greeting Benjamin Franklin Middle School Community,

On behalf of the staff at BFMS, I would like to wish each of you a happy, healthy, and successful New Year!  As shared with the staff just days ago, my reflections of our first half of the academic year revealed evidence of a learning space that was full of teachable moments, opportunities to extend learning, and an abundance of achievements to celebrate for our students, and also our staff.  While we also experienced a few challenges, I want to thank each of you for your support as it has been a very key component of the success we will continue to share at Benjamin Franklin Middle School.

The central theme that will continue to guide the work at our school will be to provide students with an exceptional and competitive education that will prepare each of them for their tomorrow… TODAY!  This work will continue by ensuring that we are all laser-focused on the core values highlighted in our district’s strategic plan.  These values are Excellence, Innovation, Equity, and Collaboration and we will remain steadfast to work toward supporting our learners as they find new ways to explore learning and teaching.

As we embark on the latter half of this academic year, I want to share key information with our school community.

  • On January, 7, 2020, BFMS will launch the BFAST Program.  BFAST will operate in the AM and PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week and is open to allstudents at BF - providing academic and enrichment support to students in math, language arts, social studies, and science.  We will also provide a Robotics component for students as they continue to explore 21stcentury skills aligned to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  The Robotics component will be available on Wednesdays  An online application can be found below this message.  Homework help in any content will also be available.
  • Next, 2020 will mark the 100-year anniversary of suffrage for women in the United States. During Women’s History Month in March, we will celebrate this milestone and we want to do so in a way that honor the contributions of all women and make certain that all of our learners understand the path to this right that was born sometime during the beginning of the Progressive Era decades before the passage of the 19th Amendment.
  • Lastly, NJSLA will take place in the early Spring.  We will continue the work we have started at BFMS and work toward building strategies, stamina, and skills to move all of our students toward success as measured by this assessment.  As you consider the needs of your learners, please take full advantage of the program offerings that were strategically designed to support them at every level.  We will begin a rigorous push to prepare our students to meet the challenges of NJSLA and other academic measurements they will face during their school career.

As I shared early in the school year, I want to, again, thank the community of Teaneck Public Schools for its warm welcome to the district and its continued support of Benjamin Franklin Middle School. We are looking forward to fulfilling our mission to provide students with an exceptional and competitive education that will prepare each of them for their tomorrow… TODAY!

Thank you,

Terrence Williams
