On February 5, students from Teaneck High School headed for Washington DC’s Holocaust Museum on a trip sponsored by the Teaneck Board of Education.
It may have been 0 degrees the previous week, and the rest of the week was chilly and rainy, but the weather on that day in Washington DC was an amazing 72 degrees, a sunny and perfect day. Students walked across the National Mall in the beautiful, spring-like weather.
They climbed the Lincoln Memorial, took pictures of the Washington Monument, and stood beside the Martin Luther King Memorial a few days after what would have been Dr. King’s 100th birthday. The group finally arrived at the Holocaust Museum.
The tour through the Holocaust Museum was a riveting and emotional experience. The yearly visit never fails to have a powerful effect as the history of the terrible era of the Holocaust is vividly displayed. One student commented, “I feel like I learned so much.” A friend agreed. “I think I read every plaque in the museum.”
Leaving the Museum, under a clear sky, the group headed back to Teaneck, grateful to Teaneck High for making this memorable trip possible.
