Students Honored with Girl Scout Gold Award
Gold Award
Teaneck students and Girl Scout Ambassadors Amoria Burks and Ilana Lightburn of Troop 95762 received the Girl Scout Gold Award on March 11th, 2018. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest national achievement awarded by Girl Scouts of the USA. Approximately five percent of all Girl Scouts earn this distinction, which recognizes girls for their extraordinary leadership through the "Take Action" project that reaches out to their community. They were among 52 girls who were honored by The Girl Scout of Northern New Jersey.

Amoria's project was entitled "Accessing Higher Education".  In an effort to increase diversity in colleges & universities she devised a workshop  to inform students and parents in NJ, NY, and PA about the application process and financial resources available to them. Ilana's project was entitled  "Ilana's Teen Boutique Corner" and  addressed & brought awareness to the need of clothing & hardships that teen girls who are homeless face due to many reasons including domestic violence. The teen closet is housed at Center for Safety and Hope.
