Programs For Everyone

For Adults:

Operated under the aegis of the Board of Education, the Teaneck Community Education Center is self-supporting, in that administrative costs and instructors' salaries are paid by fees, not tax dollars. Something for Everyone is the motto of the Center, which strives to meet the needs and wants of people of all ages. About 200 afternoon, evening and weekend classes are provided for high school students and adults, and on-site after-school classes are held in the elementary and middle schools. In addition to its regular programs, the Center sponsors a number of programs that expand upon the regular services of the schools.

Courses range from ballroom dancing, Latin dancing and belly dancing to French, Spanish, or English as a Second Language (offered through a partnership with the Bergen Community College Adult Learning Center). Sign up for computer classes, take points off your driver's license, marbleize a picture frame, study Shakespeare, play the guitar, paint or draw, enroll in first aid/CPR, improve communication with your spouse or children, learn dog training techniques, relax with yoga, Reiki or tai chi, improve your health with aerobics, explore the stock market or investment options, become a real estate broker, start your own business, stop smoking, lose weight, find a new career, discover the benefits of vegetarianism, play tennis, improve study skills, arrange flowers, grow a garden, play bridge, explore the world of cheeses, learn about Teaneck and more, and more!

There are also history walks, foraging walks, day trips, and overnight trips to far and not-so-far-away places.

When possible, discounts are offered to high school students and senior citizens. Single women heads of households may apply for employment counseling and retraining through the funded TW2 (Teaneck Women Train and Work) program. For Children:

Teaneck's youngest residents are not ignored. There are dance classes for toddlers and pre-K programs for four-year-olds. Elementary school children enjoy classes in art, science, aviation, chess, karate, music, puzzles and plexers and more. Enrichment and SAT programs are offered for teens. Low-cost parenting workshops are offered to parents and children.

Classes are offered in the public schools, Central Administrative Office, Classic Residence, Heritage Pointe, Holy Name Hospital and the Richard Rodda Community Center.
