Summer for Kids
Camp Kookooskoos offers an exciting summer program with activities that include sports, arts and crafts, drama, music, dance, nature, swim instruction, trips, shows and many other special activities. There is a group for grades K-4, Junior Travelers for grades 5 & 6, Travel Camp for grades 7-9 and a CIT program for students entering grade 10. A before and/or after camp option for working parents is available during this full-day, six-week program. The camp directors head a caring and enthusiastic professional staff of teachers, child care personnel, and college and high school students. There is a full-time registered school nurse on the grounds. Lunch, snacks and two t-shirts are included.
In addition to summer Camp Kookooskoos, there is Musical Words, a reading/arts/enrichment program, created and implemented by a former Teaneck music teacher who is a professor at Ramapo College. It is offered during the summer for children entering grades 2-6. Participants work on the improvement of reading skills (without knowing it's work!) in a nurturing setting. The program includes art, dance, drama and music, and culminates in a musical production that is based on the children's experiences and writing.
Order in the Courtroom: The Law Through Fairy Tales is an award-winning program created and directed by a teacher who is the former director of Public Affairs and Education for the largest unified court system in the nation. It is offered during the year and in the summer for middle- and high school students. The program is an extraordinary integration of law, literature and theater that culminates in a courtroom play/trial where the children, as actors, play the parts of familiar fantasy characters seeking justice through the American legal system.
Rhythms! is a two- or four-week performing arts program of instrumental jazz for children entering grades 7-9. It has been designed for young artists who are serious about music and have at least one year of experience in this discipline. Under the direction of a professional jazz musician and vocal music teacher for the Teaneck Public Schools, students have an opportunity to concentrate on individual as well as group performance.
