D.R.E.A.M.S. is an all female mentorship group for Benjamin Franklin Middle School girls in grades 7 and 8. Participants develop into a true sisterhood who share with each other, learn from each other, and mature together.
D.R.E.A.M.S. stands for Determination, Responsibility, Excellence, Achievement, Motivation, and Success.
Girls in this advisory group meet with BFMS School Counselor and Anti-Bullying Specialist, Ms. Eve Klein, two to three times per month after school.
Topics for these interactive workshops include relational aggression, body image and the media, peer pressure, communication skills, goal setting, and self-esteem. In addition, the girls do community outreach and attend field trips to places such as a local nursing home and William Paterson University for a College for the Day experience.
We have young ladies from the Teaneck High School all female advisory group, H.E.A.L., join us and participate in some of our workshops, as well as young Teaneck alumni who serve as role models and work with our girls on goal setting and career exploration. We also have a guest from Alternatives to Domestic Violence present a workshop on Healthy Relationships and we utilize media to enhance our understanding of the harmful effects of female bullying.
D.R.E.A.M.S. girls continue to commit themselves to excellence and achievement, both academically and interpersonally.
