Dear Thomas Jefferson
Middle School Families,
Welcome to the 2018-2019
academic year at Thomas Jefferson Middle School! As I do each year as I
reflect on the opening of another school year, I look forward to, and believe
in, the greatness of the opportunities that will present themselves to each of
us during our time together. I am deeply aware of the changing world in
which we live, the challenges our young people face, and the bedrock importance
of the active participation of parents in all aspects of their children’s
lives. We here at Thomas Jefferson
Middle School embrace the reality that for many, if not all, of our students,
school is their “second home.” My hope is that during this school year,
you as parents and guardians, and we, as administrators, teachers, child study
team and school counselors will partner together to position each of your sons
and daughters for success - intellectually, socially, physically, and morally.
It is with great joy that I
welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Enoch Nyamekye. Mr. Nyamekye
earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Fairleigh Dickenson University, majoring in
English, and then received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and
Teaching. Mr. Nyamekye has had ten years of teaching and moderated the
S.O.L.V.E. mentoring Program at Teaneck High School. He also worked with the TJ Achievers at
Thomas Jefferson Middle School and the Peer Leadership Program.
I will also take this
opportunity to welcome our newest members, the incoming fifth graders, the
Class of 2022! I encourage each of you to take advantage of ALL that
Thomas Jefferson Middle School has to offer.
Allow yourselves to grow, to question, to meet new people, to learn as
much as you can about the world, your classmates and teachers, and yourselves
every day. I encourage you not to let any opportunity pass you by!
Our first day of school is
Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Other important information can be found on
our school website. This includes:
a 2018-2019 school calendar, school supplies lists, and a copy of the
Parent/Student Handbook, which I encourage each of you to review and discuss with
your child, positioning them to be academically and socially successful at
Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
The administrative team
here at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, Ms. Angela R. Davis, Principal, Ms.
Nina Odatalla, Assistant Principal for Grades 6 and 8, and Mr. Enoch Nyamekye,
Assistant Principal for Grades 5 and 7, is committed to focusing on student
achievement, to providing opportunities to discuss specific areas of focus and
key strategies for building cultural competency, as well as character education
and to improving school climate. We recognize that it will be extremely
difficult to reach our goals and objectives without the support, understanding
and involvement of parents, guardians, and the greater Teaneck community in the
education process. Commitment to
life-long learning is truly a community commitment!
We are looking forward to a
very positive and rewarding school year at Thomas Jefferson Middle School,
working closely with you and your family.
Angela R. Davis
